Running Win7 Pro, 64bit. Can't find any USB drivers, not even old ones. I need the AD9957 EVAL USB driver if I'm going to get anywhere with this. Please tell me where this is.
Unfortunately, the AD9957 software is not compatible with Win7 64bit. However, you can install XP mode to run the AD9957 software or you can use Win7 32bit instead of 64bit.
I can appreciate that it's not easy keeping up with MS versions but since XP has now been obsolete for quite a while (and is the latest software supporting this part) what does that say about the longevity of the AD9957 itself? The data sheet does not indicate any issues yet but could this be an indicator for anticipating seeing the dreaded "Not for New Design" stamp there any time in the next few years? This is of great concern to me because I have just designed this part into a new product and there appears to be nothing else close to this functionality available in the ADI product line up.
ADI has no plans to change the status of the AD9957. While we cannot offer any type of guarantee, this is among the newer designs in our DDS portfolio, and at this point, the only potential impetus that might affect a change to those plans would be if we were losing access to some element of the manufacturing chain. The AD9957 does not rely on anything unusual in terms of package, process, or test, making it highly unlikely that the manufacturing chain is threatened.
What I typically say in lieu of any assurance is this: ADI has not aggressively sought to EOL parts in our DDS portfolio, and there are no plans to change that position. Our oldest DDS (AD9850) is still actively being sold, though we are recommending other options for new designs now because that device is 20 years old and as such, we are relying on 20(+) yr old fab processes, packages, test solutions, etc., so we assign a higher likelihood that our manufacturing capability for that device is more likely to be hit by subcontractor obsolescence than our newer products.
