I am Having a hard time migrating from AD5933 to AD5934 for the arduino
the device locks up when i start sampling(the same code works with AD5933)
what differences exist between the devices?

The difference between the AD5933 and AD5934 is the speed of your their ADC. The AD5933 has a 1MSPS ADC while the AD5934 has a 250kSPS ADC. In addition, the AD5933 has an internal temperature sensor.
May I know what is the frequency of your external clock?

I am working with this library which works well with the AD5933
but stops working this AD5934
I experienced the same problem. Make sure that you set the part to use an external clock (there is no internal) and that the voltage level of this external clock is not too high (if you use Arduino Uno e.g. the level will be 5V and that might not work if you operate the AD5934 at 3.3 V). Also, don't use the temperature sensor because it doesn't have one. Maybe that will introduce some error?
It is also important to turn on the external clock before you do anything with the part. Better also wait a few milliseconds before sending the first commands.
The library you mentioned worked in the end, but I decided to write my own for this part: GitHub - JDapra/AD5934: It is still under construction but the basic functions work already.
Please also note that the voltage ranges of the AD5933 and AD5934 don't seem to be identical (at least their order isn't).
I have same problem too. I use AD5933 in my board with external oscilator without any problem problem for more than 2 years. When I tried replace AD5933 to AD5934 I couldnt get any accurate impedance. I can communicate with AD5934 . I also changed Frequency Increment and Start Frequency values as datasheet differences. Simply I did Start and Increment Frequency values multiply by 4. I set for external clock by send 0x04 to 0x81 address. I dont change number of increments and number of setling cycle.
What could be the problem?
