I am reviewing the biasing procedure document https://www.hittite.com/content/documents/mmic_amplifier_biasing_procedure.pdf

The standard sequence seems to be pinching off the gate initially before applying a drain voltage.  For pHemt, gate voltage needs to be a minus value, and not pinching off the gate initially would likely damage the chip when Vd is applied due to Id flow.

If I were to screen amplifiers so that Vg of the amplifiers will be, -1v +/-0.25v, is it still necessary to still pinch off the gate before applying Vd, or can I just set Vg to my optimum voltage? This should work since I already know that I can achieve nominal Id at that voltage, correct? Thanks.

Best Regards.
