im designing 1,6Ghz RX path with AD9361 and i need to achieve 0.1Hz LO Frequency Step. If i will connect ADF4351 to ext LO - Is possible to get resolution in 0.1Hz?
The maximum modulus on the ADF4351 is 4095. For a reference frequency of 10 MHz, this gives a resolution of 2.44 kHz.
The ADF4355-2 has a much higher modulus. With a reference frequency of 10 MHz, you can achieve 0.1 Hz resolution. For more information see:
LO resolution in this case will be determined by ADF4351. Frequency resolution is (reference input frequency/modulus). Please refer to the ADF4351 datasheet for more details.
Also note that AD9361 ext LO requires a signal 2x the desired operating frequency (i.e. for 2GHz operation you need to apply a 4GHz signal at the external LO input).
Just curious. What is the application that requires such fine frequency resolution?
Tx output tone is used as a reference and Rx is used to measure your DUT's output frequency where you servo the DUT's output frequency to be equal to the Tx output frequency?
