what technical limitation keeps IIP3 so low in the lower frequency (0-20Ghz) VVAs. For example why is a VVA with the performance of the HMC812 ( 2dB loss, 35dB attenuation and IIP3 33 dBm) not available in a 0-20Ghz version?
HMC812LC4 uses a distributed attenuator architecture and stacked FETs to operate at high power levels (high IP3). HMC812LC4 is optimized for 5-30GHz operation.
We have HMC346 die that covers DC-20GHz frequency range but it is a lower power design using T-type attenuator architecture.
I will check with the design team on tradeoffs between high power and low frequency.
