Cannot load rfs for ADV7511 ref design on zc702

I've followed the walk through as described here - Linux with HDMI video output on the ZED and ZC702, ZC706 boards [Analog Devices Wiki] - to output video to my HDMI monitor. I've completed all steps and have the bitstream, the device tree blob and kernel image (uImage). I've also created the boot.bin using the fsbl, bitsream, u-boot and uImage. The linaro footfs is sitting in the ext4 root partition and the boot.bin, uImage, dtb and uEnv.txt are sitting in the boot partition.

When I boot up the zc702 (in SD boot mode 00110) everything boots, with no obvious errors, and then I log in as root/root. The HDMI monitor connected to the zc702 seems to realise it's connected but just displays a black screen.

When I go to root and have a look around it's definitely not the rootfs that's sitting in the root partition - it looks more like the init ram disk one or something.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where the problem might be?
