Let me ask the question differently. What is the simplest sequence of bytes to send to this device to verify it is working? I am using the internal ref. I beleive it would be 2 32 bit commands one to enable the internal ref and one to set the dac ch and value.
For a test I just need to set ch ) to say 1 vol. Can you advise

I am still having an issue using this lib with the arduino ide. I get an ERROR communication.h lib not found.
You got the wrong project since communication.h lib is part of the driver that runs directly on the microcontroller and it's not an arduino driver.
Under the Download section download the AD5628 chipKIT Driver archive. Then please follow the user guide that explains how to add the library to the adruino IDE.
I download the chipKit Driver and now get the follwing error.
Isn't the chipkit for a PIC not aan Arduino?

Sorry, I thought you were using chipKitUno board.
The projects we've done for AD5628 as well as for the other ADI parts are for chipKit boards. We have used MPIDE (Multi-Platform IDE) environment to develop and test the projects.
ChipKit is arduino compatible allowing Arduino code to run on chipKit and vice-versa, but chipKit also has specific libraries and DSPI is one of them: chipKIT Libraries » chipKIT Development Platform
To use the AD5628 chipKit project with your Adruino Uno board you will have to port it to arduino. This means that you will have to replace all SPI calls that belong to the DSPI library with an Arduino SPI library. The rest of the AD5628 library implementation can be left untouched.
