Why printf with HPUSB ICE is so slow?

This is a very simple question, as you can see from the post title.

I wonder why a simple debug printf takes so a long time, in the 0.5 to 1 second range!!

I browsed the forum and documentation for explanation or way of improvement but I simply found statements that printf IS slow.

I thought this should be the easier way of debugging code, but printf are almost impossible to use if you need to display a reasonable amount of data and keep on working, if not in real time way, at least in a realistic time.

I use similar printf feature with other uP emulators, far far far cheaper than HPUSB and this works easily and fast.

So, what the HP in the HPUSB-ICE name stands for?

Or am I missing some point?

Thank you
