I cant understand well about the multichannel mode of operation despite just going through the Blackfin HRM. Can you please suggest any application in which this is being used?
I will try to briefly explain the multichannel sport functionality. Multichannel mode of operation allows the SPORT to communicate in a Time-Division-Multiplexed (TDM) manner. In multichannel communications, each data word of the serial bitstream occupies a separate channel. This is like if you have an application in which you want to transmit or recieve different data streams on a single serial link, the solution is to multiplex all the channels in time-domain and transmit(recieve) them on same serial link. This is where multichannel mode of sport is useful, in which different data streams can have their data words occupying different slots on the channel. The SPORT has the functionality to demultiplex the data from different streams by selectively recieving data from different channels. In SPORT up to 128 channels are available for transmitting or receiving; each SPORT can receive and transmit data selectively from any of the 128 channels. As an example you can have two channels of stereo audio multiplexed on same sport channel.
