I've just noticed something strange in VisualDSP++ update8: if a comment ends with a '\', the following instruction is totally ignored by the compiler.
// Just a comment \ a = a++;
The compiler doesn't generate any assembly code for this instruction and so, it is not executed when the program runs.
Once you know about this issue, it not a big issue but I spent some time wondering why my application was not working anymore because I was using '/' and '\' in a comment to point something in the previous line:
// | 0 | 1 | 2 | ... // /\ /\ myInstruction();
For information, I'm using VisualDSP++ update8 connected to a AVNet VSK kit (Blackfin561) using a HPUSB-ICE.
