I have a question about configuration register.

Please see "Tab 32 GPIO CONFIGURATION  REGISTER" in AD7172-2 DS.

There are IP_EN1, IP_EN0, OP_EN1 and OP_EN0 in it.

Each bit works as GPIO0/1 set as input or output.

Could you explain the background why there are 2bits to control GPIO?

I think there are only 2 states for GPIO; each Input or Output

But from the bits, I feel like that GPIO can be both Input/Output...

The questions are the followings;

1. Can GPIO be both Input and Output?

1.1. If so, what kind of situations do users need both function? I would like to know who the function is useful/helpful to.

1.2.. If not, Why are there 2 bits to control GPIO (I mean I think only 1bit for controlling is enough)

Thank you for your help.
