BF527 FPGA testing

I have been testing DSP code on the ADSP-BF527 EZ-KIT Lite, including exploring the MDMA capabilities for writing to SDRAM. Straightforward enough.

The next step in our project would be to port this over to our processor board, which has the BF527 and an Artix 7 FPGA, The way our board was laid out the FPGA will be the master and the DSP the slave and we intend to boot the DSP via the FPGA using the DSP DMA engine.

Perhaps unwittingly we purchased the FPGA Extender kit, but subsequently realized that it is not supported in conjunction with the BF527 EZ-KIT Lite (only the BF533, etc). Thus, I have no easy way of testing whether one can boot and program the DSP from the Spartan 3 on the FPGA Extender board.

My questions are:

1) Can one modify the e.g., BF533FPGAExtenderDriver to accommodate the BF527.

2) If not, is there a suggested alternative, short of writing the code from scratch?

3) Are there examples of how this might be done using DMA engine?

It's probably not necessary to point out my relative lack of expertise, though, I can be pretty persistent in finding solutions.
