I'm interfacing to a ADV7842 and am trying to simplify the external connections to the chip. As VGA and DVI are usually 24 bit RGB I'm wondering if the chip will do a conversion to the 422 YCrCb format?
Yes, just set it up as a normal VGA in with RGB output then modify
RGB_OUT = 0
OP_FORMAT_SEL = 0x90
select the right OP_CH_SEL to match your system
Also if you are not going to do Standard Definition you do not need to include the external SDRAM.
I do plan on using standard definition formats - but do not want to add the external RAM. Why is this memory needed? Is it for the Comb filter? I'm not planning on doing any delinterlacing with the ADV7842.
The external SDRAM is need for the Time Base Correction (TBC) and 3D Combs filter. If you are not planning to use these features, then you do not need the external SDRAM.
Great - thanks!
