HI all. First post to the board but a long time visitor. We are looking to generate a linear frequency chirp for a RADAR/LIDAR application. We'd like the ability to sweep the frequency from a few MHz up to about 1GHz. But perhaps more important than the absolute bandwidth is the chirp rate. I'd like to sweep at a rate somewhere in the range of 30MHz/ms-300MHz/ms. Unfortunately our expensive rack mount signal generators can't generate chirp signals at this rate without switching bands during the sweep. Lastly, would you recommend a PLL synthesizer as the clock source rather than using a rack mount signal generator? Thanks in advance for your help.
