ADAU1761 ADC_SDATA pin direction? In or Out?

The ADAU1761 datasheet says that chip pin ADC_SDATA-GPIO1 is an output when used for serial data (e.g. figure 26). Wouldn't an output pin be used to drive a DAC? Why is it marked for ADC function? Likewise for the DAC_SDATA-GPIO2 pin, why is that an input? I didn't check but assume the ADAU1761Z eval board matches this marking.

So do I wire an ADC to the ADC_SDATA pin or to the DAC_SDATA pin?
