I am trying to use ADP1048 as a battery charger for litium ion batteries. is it possible to have a variable output voltage and run the pfc with constant current?
What are the output voltage and output current ratings? Is the input from the AC source? For the boost PFC controller, it is difficult to limit the output currnet. Therefore I would suggest a PFC controller followed by a DCDC controller. The DCDC controller operate at constant current mode and enable fast control loop for the battery charging. The DCDC controller can be ADP1055 with highly programming fexibility.
I appriciate your time and your help. I have designed two stage battery charger before for lead acid batteries. I used pfc boost preregulator and llc resonant converter. this time i have been asked to design for high voltage litium ion battery. the line voltage is 90 to 120vac and the output voltage is 290v to 350v. i have a very small space for battery charger and i can not use two stage charger. the output current average is 4A and it has high current ripple that works on litium ion batteries. there are chargers with this topology in the market right now. I don't know if it is possible that i can change the output voltage for ADP1048 on the fly. I can use other control chip like fan9612 but i have short time for this design and if i can use ADP1048, I will have a huge saving on r and d development time. i will appriciate any help and recommendation. thanks
