Common-Mode Input Range of differential input PulSAR ADC

Hello,

 

I have a question about differential input PulSAR ADC.

These ADC has the specification about Common-Mode Input Range.

For example:

In AD7682, Vref/2 + 0.1 V (max).

 

What behavior does ADC do if the input signal is different from the specification of Common-Mode Input Range?

In my system, when the sine wave was input and tested, the value to which the digital output sometimes jumped was observed.

I am understood not to operate normally because this is a usage different from the specification.

 

Why does ADC do such behavior when a usage different from the specification of Common-Mode Input Range?

I want to know the mechanism.
