Can the ADM1073/5 be modified for positive (+48V) hot swap application?
There is no need to change anything.
you see, when used in -48V application, the chip and all signals are referenced to the -48V node not the earth ground.
so if you are using the circuit in +48V, you could simply change the -48V to GND and -48VRTN to +48V. and the circuit would work. again you need to make sure all the current goes into +48V will all return back through the single GND path controlled by the ADM1073.
Yes but only if you have only one current return path.
the ADM1073 uses low side control scheme where it control the "return current" from the load.
most of the -48V systems have an isolated converter after the hotswap so all the current will flow back to -48V.
the polarity of the input voltage is only relative and the ADM1073 can certainly withstand 48V across it, but for a +48V system if you have multiple ground path then ADM1073 may not be able to see and control all the currents that went in to the load.
