Can anyone guide me as to what parameters are to be considered to select a proper SFCW transceiver IC. I need it to use as GPR. Some of the parameters are:
Bandwidth: 2-3 GHz
Range: 10 m
Range resolution: 5 cm
Do you require 2-3GHz of instantaneous bandwidth? If so, that will be hard to find in an integrated circuit.
If you can use 56MHz bandwidth steps in your application our transceivers can support your application. (AD9361 and AD9364)
Can AD9361 / AD9364 be used as SFCW GPR transceiver? And bandwidth steps of around 10 - 30 MHz will be helpful. The total operational Bandwidth of SFCW GPR should be around 2GHz. Please respond as quickly as you can. It will be of much help.
AD9361 can handle the bandwidth and frequency range. AD9361 frequency operating range is 70MHz - 6GHz.
What kind of timing do you require?

Do you have a requirement on how quickly frequency of operation needs to change?
In short can you suggest me a transceiver ic for SFCW radar operation with performance nearly equal to a VNA?
VNA frequency sweep speeds vary based on the number of points, averaging, IF bandwidth etc...
I think that AD9361 can deliver comparable performance.

also i need unmodulated (continuous wave) bandwidth at receiver with if bandwidth around 50 kHz. AD9361 supports various modulations which are not required for my application. so can you suggest me whether this ic will meet the specification or any other ic can meet the spec. plz reply as soon as possible.
Please see comments below. AD9361 datasheet contains performance metrics for your requirements either directly or indirectly via calculation:
- do you mean linear dynamic range or spurious. If it is spurious than no.
- I think that this is a function of max frequency, i.e. 5GHz in your case.
- I think that this should be fine.
- also fine I think since Tx noise floor is -157dBm/Hz
- noise figure may need to have to be improved with an external LNA at higher frequencies (it ranges from 2dB up to 4dB over 70MHz to 6GHz range).
- 50kHz can be supported
- not a problem since frequency range of the part is 70MHz - 6GHz
how much is the receiver sensitivity in AD9361? and can you specify any other transceiver ic that suits my needs?
You could use AD9364, which is a 1x1 version of AD9361.
Sensitivity can be calculated based on BW and noise figure.
can you suggest a compatible power amplifier at transmitter upto 30 dBm gain? Also a compatible LNA upto 20 dB. Also can you suggest me their prices?
