Does the ADA4870 thermal slug have to be connected to ground or can i connect it to another voltage potential?
The thermal heat slug has no electrical connection inside the IC, so it can be connected to ground, VCC, VEE or any potential in between. The most important thing about the thermal heat slug is, that it be soldered to a PCB that provides a high thermal conductive path from the IC to the ambient air.
sorry for the intrusion here. I am now getting an ADA4870 eval board and I wonder which heat sink to use.
On the datasheet, a VHS-95, but that product seem to be discontinued. Do you have any alternative to suggest with same footprint and capabilities?
This Wakefield-Vette heatsinks would be a good replacement for the discontinued VHS parts basing on their dimensions and thermal resistance.
