ADSP-21479 UART Tx pin status while configuring DMA

Hi, I'm using the UART in regular (non-chained) DMA mode for Tx transfers.  Following the programming model in the hardware reference manual, I clear the UARTTXCTL register before programming the DMA registers.  Unfortunately this step disables the UART and the state of the Tx pin goes low.  It needs to stay high while inactive or else the receiving device gets Rx errors.  How can I keep the Tx pin high while configuring DMA registers?
