Detecting NMI pin state

We are working on a powerdown warning feature on our bf52x based board and are thinking of adding an additional feature to the NMI pin.

So some question have arised....

Is it possible to runtime detect the state of NMI pin.

Bit 2 in the Secure Status Register reflects general the NMI detection,  independent of source, right?

Is it possible to for an NMI interrupt routine to acknowledge an external triggered NMI interrupt and return so the applicaiton can continue running normally. Even though the NMI pin is still active (low on bf52x)? In other words, can the NMI edge triggered?
