Diverting Low Level Audio

Is there a way to sense the low level audio and divert all signals below a threshold to an alternate audio path? I'm not looking to remove them from the main audio path, simply route anything low level to my alternate path for additional processing.

I've played around with threshold detectors etc, but so far can't seem to consistently divert only low level signals and not any of the higher level stuff. Anything beyond the threshold I want to keep on the main audio path and not let it get into the diverted path. Maybe there is another toolbox item that is more appropriate for this task?

Any insight would be appreciated.
