We have a requirement for a client to design a prototype OSD On Screen Display that is in colour. To date we have a rough prototype running which does the job using 3 MAX7456 OSD chips and a discrete RGB to analog composite encoder.

Is there a better alternative to using 3 OSD devices which are I2C and a micro? We dont want to go down the path of heavy software development, the solution we have on character generation is pretty acceptable, im just wondering if there is an easier and cheaper solution.
Is there an RGB to composite encoder, that will allow the overlay of 3 OSD signals onto a composite video source such as a CCTV camera, or is there a way of using the MAX7456's seperately in conjunction with maybe something like the AD724 composite encoder. So far our thinking has stopped us from effectively splitting 3 video signals and designating them red, green and blue, and combining them with the original source.
Any suggestions or comments?
