My understanding of the datasheet for the ADM2587E is that it only specifies the supply current while transmitting. Does anyone have any idea how much current the device draws when it is not transmitting (DE and /RE both low)?
A typical measurement for the supply current in this case is 2 mA.
Correct, the datasheet supply current numbers relate to active transmit and receive.
Typical supply current for driver and receiver disabled on the ADM2587E would be a bit under 10 mA.
Thanks Conal. Do you know how much extra power is consumed if just the receiver is enabled at 500kbps? We are implementing a MODBUS solution where we need to listen on the bus continuously.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that we are powering the device from at 3.3V.
