AD7606 gets pretty warm

We are experiencing a very high temperature by driving the AD7606 with Vdrive at 3.3V and Vcc with 5V. First we are switching the 3.3V and after then the 5V. We first had a mistake in the design that was connecting one of the configuration pins with 5V while driving the Vdrive at 3.3V. Could the AD7606 now be destroyed?

The Voltage reference ist set to external and the Vrefin is connected to exactly 2.5V.


What could be the problem? We aren't possible to communicate to the chip properly.
