what is meant by "EZ kit designed for stand alone debugger? because of this reason 1st pin of JTAG connected to vDD. for custom boards you should connect this 1st pin to GND".
On EZ-Kits, Pin1 is pulled high with a pull-up resistor and is used as a detection mechanism to switch between the on board USB Debug agent and the JTAG emulator connection. So, its basic function is to detect whether an emulator is connected to the JTAG header on the EZ-KIT or not.
Since a custom board does not have Debug Agent functionality Pin1 should simply be tied to GND, as recommended in Application note EE-68. The link for the note is given below:
