Designing high gain, low noise, low input amplifier?

This is my first time trying to develop a design entirely within a DSP processor.  I am using the ADAU1761 eval board.

My design requirements will have a differental input mono signal.  The input can vary between 10uV and Vin max so I need to have not only a variable gain but a low noise figure when the gain is at the maximum.  The DSP will only be used for the A/D and D/A conversions with some filtering in between.  I can tolerate a tapering of the higher freq response in order to help in the more important goals identified.  The output will be used to drive a LINE level and/or headphones.


My basic questions are what considerations do I need to keep in mind on the modules to use and the order in which I connect them.  The operation of the design can be controlled both internally to the DSP as well as the PSoC (uC) that I will be using to control the entire product.


Any thoughts, no matter how trivial you think they might be, would be greatully excepted!
