What should I be using?
Interlaced Mode: VFORMAT=0 (NTSC) or VFORMAT=1 (PAL)
This is normal standard definition video where each compressed tile is equal to 1 FIELD of video data.
PROS: Simple, programmable, robust
CONS: Lesser compression efficiency compared to de-interlaced mode
De-interlaced Mode: VFORMAT=8 (NTSC) or VFORMAT=9 (PAL)
In this mode, the ADV212 uses a very simple bob & weave to put the odd and even fields together into a frame and the FRAME is compressed as a tile.
PROS: Better compression efficiency (50% on average)
CONS: Very timing dependent-- video either match expected or it doesn't work period, unprogrammable, simple method leads to very visible tearing with motion.
