USB to RS232 issues

Good Day Everyone!

Currently I've been experiencing problems connecting my computer to my blackfin board (BF537-EZ Lite kit). I was just wondering if there is any specific type of USB to serial cable which I should use

I have read this article: https://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials/215 and it says that the UART uses TTL serial communication, while the computer's serial port uses RS232 serial communication. That said, an extra device is needed between the connection of the computer and the blackfin in order for them to communicate well.

Has anyone successfully used a USB to RS232 cable to connect to a blackfin board? Or do I still have to add an extra device (max232 or rs232 shifter), or maybe even use a USB to TTL Cable instead?

Thank you!
