AD9985A development

We were planning to use the AD9985A for converting Analog RGB (XGA) to Digital RGB, since it seemed most appropriate.   However, I did notice that the AD9985A has a development board that is obsolete.   So I called in and asked if the part is obsolete, and I was told that no it isn't.  But when I go onto the site, it says "Not Recommended for New Designs" though it's still "Production" Status.   The ones that are recommended for new design seem to have too many other functions and may not even solve the original problem of a straight Analog RGB to Digital RGB.   What would you recommend for development in our specific case?  And do you have any development advice as to how to prototype this.

Thanks,

Shelton
