Adding C Run Time to Linker Script

I have a small project in VisualDSP++ which currently uses only assembly language.  I want to call my own C function from assembly.  I've followed the relevant documentation and EE note and created a sample app but cannot get the linker to link to my C function.  The best result I've found points to needing the C Run Time in my linker script.  This is weird, because the project options include all kinds of stuff about C++ already so I'm not sure if the project supports C++ or not.

I don't understand what the "C Run Time" will do in my case, as I don't need any library functions, I only want to compile and call my own C function.  At any rate, I need help incorporating the C Run Time in to my linker script (whatever that means).
