I want to use a resonator for the AD7734, to reduce component count, but can't get any 6.144 MHz, as per recommended circuit. What other values of crystals are acceptable by the chip?
You can use crystals with frequencies from 1MHz to 6.144MHz. Please check the timing specs of the master clock range in Page 6 of the datasheet.
However, changing the crystal frequency from 6.144MHz will affect the output data rate. Conversion time equations are given on page 19 of the datasheet. Though you can use crystals from 1MHz to 6.144MHz, it would be optimal to use this part with a 6.144MHz crystal.
thank you very much. Somehow missed crystal information in p.6
Will just use 6.144 MHz crystal for optimum results, can't go too much with optimisation.
On the other hand, for the first tests I assebled the circuit with 8MHz crystal (had only one value hanging around), and the chip functioned faultlesly. Even had an increased data output by 17-18%, compared to the timings in p.9 .
The chip should be really flexible
Farnell and Digikey have quite a number of 6.144MHz crystals. You can try to check these links 1 and 2.
thank you, I've got the supplier for crystals. It is just my observation, that the AD7734 worked well with 8 Mhz crystal as well (in a test circuit).
