Could anybody please comment on the following?
VIO is spesifeid as -0.5 to 6V whith the Digital input as –0.5 V to VIO + 0.5 V
Could the device be connected to, for example a 2.5V VIO supply to accomedate a 2.5V logic interface?
The specifications section of the ADM3053 specifies the operating conditions for VIO:
3.0 V ≤ VIO ≤ 5.5 V
The range -0.5 to 6 V is the absolute maximum rating for the VIO pin, a stress rating defining the limits of the voltages that can be applied to the pin.
The ADM3053 is designed for 3.3V or 5V logic. As regards connecting 2.5V logic, the input thresholds and output voltage levels for the ADM3053 logic interface are specified in the datasheet:
For example, when VIO has a 3V supply:
Output voltage high on RxD is 2.7V minimum (one could assume potentially a maximum level of about 3V) - the 2.5V logic would need to be tolerant of this.
Output voltage low on RxD is up to 0.4V, this needs to be within the input low threshold of the 2.5V logic device.
With VIO = 3V, the input high threshold on TxD is 2.1V (0.7 * 3.0) - the voltage level on TxD needs to be at that level or greater to ensure the input is considered a logic high.
