Anyone have an idea of the max output current on the AD637. The datasheet shows a min output current but nothing for the max. Thanks
I'm not sure if you are asking about the max short circuit so you can size your power supply, etc.
We size the output transistors to develop a certain voltage swing into a certain load. So we
guarantee 12V into a 2k load, which is 6mA. So the Output current line in the spec table
Then we sometimes add short circuit protection circuitry, which is usually a small diffused
resistor with a tempco 2,000-3,000 ppm/C and have a base-emitter junction of a bipolar
across it. So when the I*R drop across the resistor gets large enough, it turns on the bipolar
and robs drive current from the output stage. With a Vbe going down at -2mV/C and the TC
of resistor, the short circuit current can vary more than two to one. We can't set it too low,
or you don't get the six mA over process and temperature.
We say the short circuit current is 20 mA typical. I would guess the range is 12-36 mA.
