I'm currently working with the ADV7842 and a DAC. I have the following questions. Can i configure the ADV7842 24bit RGBoutput at SVGA resolution regardless of the input. For example, If the Input is HDMI/DVI, CVBS, or VESA ?
The ADV7842 can not do format conversion except for a limited case of CVBS SD to ED. Other then this, what goes in must come out. It can do color space conversion such as RGB -> YCbCr.
Would you be able to recommend a chip(s) that does the format conversion that will accept 24bit RGB and output analog RGB at SVGA res ?

That's great. Which output port on the ADV8002 would my analog RGB 800x600 res comes out the SD or HD port ? In addition, how many available OSD layers can i run at a time and how configurable is the overlay ? Can i overlay/display symbologies ?
SVGA would be output on the HD port. It should plug straight into a VGA monitor. The HDMI ports could output it in HDMI.
It has a full function OSD meaning it has probably enough icons/windows for your needs. I just don't remember the max total. And if you don't like the internal OSD you can create you own OSD, feed it in the pixel port and overlay it on top of the primary image.

Correction: HD output does not have H or V sync outputs so it can't be used directly to feed a monitor. It has sync on green which you'd have to convert to separate H & V syncs or convert the HDMI output to the correct analog signals.
Can i borrow the H & V syncs from the ADV7842 to display the video ? Would you be able to recommend a sync separator chip so i can separate the sync on green
If you are doing format conversion the syncs and clocks will be different.
There's lot of sync separators, just google sync separator. I haven't used on recently so I can recommend one.

Can the OSD overlay be configured to accept and display data from external sensors ?
A microcontroller manages the icons displayed so the controller would have to read the sensor, decided what to display and configure the internal OSD to display to appropriate icons.
Or you could generate an external video stream from the controller displaying the sensor readings and feed the stream into the 8002. It could then become a PIP window (Picture in Picture).
Still waiting for my salesperson to send over the NDA. Does ADI have any development board available for the ADV8002 or any demo video on the OSD capability ?
I have one of the eval. boards on my desk and the internal OSD looks great. Since it's under NDA I can't talk anymore about it, especially on an open forum. Going to contact up off-line.
