I am interested in synthesizing short (1-5 us) large bandwidth (1 GHz) linear chirped pulses to use in an application that demands good phase stability. Additionally, I need to be able to trigger the start of the chirp waveform with a TTL pulse provided by an external delay generator. Since I am averaging ~100,000 chirp waveforms in the time domain, I also need to reset the phase at the beginning of the waveform and have phase stability between pulses.
In the past I have used arbitrary waveform generators, but they tend to be quite expensive and are a little bit overkill for this application. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? I was thinking the ADF4158 could work but I wasn't sure how well it does in pulsed applications.
