I am currently evaluating the AD9958 DDS evaluation PCB. I am getting ready to build my own PCB design but I am confused when I look at the PCB. Can you tell me the purpose of the four large unplated through holes at the four corners of the AD9958 chip?

We have a bet in the lab. I say it was for the installation of a shield over the chip. My colleague says it is fixturing for the placement of the chip prior to and maybe during the soldering operation.
