I am interested in using a ceramic resonator on our current project to drive a BF592. This simultaneously saves on both cost and board space, and I have no need for the greater stability afforded by a crystal. Unfortunately, I am having a difficult time finding any documentation that would help me understand how to calculate the necessary load capacitors in this instance. The manufacturers all seem to admit this is a tricky problem with Murata even going so far as to make a compatibility database so that designers don't have to try and guess. Unfortunately, none of ADI's products are listed here. The best advice seems to be "just experiment with different values until it works".
I'll do that if I have to, but has anyone else here ever successfully used an inexpensive resonator for their clock source? If so, what part did you select and how did you determine the load capacitors?
