AD9850 randomly stops generating signal - is this normal?

Noobee here so please bear with me. I am developing a motor controler using one of the readily available AD9850 boards and it is working fine, but if left to run without new commands for a while it will just stop generating a signal (square wave 0 to 400khz). I have not timed it yet, but it seems like 10 minutes to 30 minutes. I can get the timing if that is important.

Without experience with this part, I don't know if this is normal behavior or I have a bad part.

ex; command a 60khz square wave and send no further commands. The board makes the square wave for a while and then it simply stops. It resumes immediately with another command.

Is it neccessary to periodically refresh the commands to keep the signal going? If so, is there a specific time that the part will generate a signal without receiving another command?

Thanks!
