iCoupler and Reinforced insulation

Dear All,

we need do develop an isolated RS485 interface for an equipment that is to be considered at a dangerous potential (connected to line voltage at 230Vac), whereas the RS485 bus is considered accessible part.

The requirement is therefore a reinforced insulation thas has to be recognized according to EN 60950 and EN 60730 for a working voltage of 230V rms and with a pollution degree of 2 (better also for degree 3).

We considered ADM2484E: datasheet revC states (on page 4) that the component is VDE recognized for reinforced insulation but in the next page, under the 'VDE 0884 INSULATION CHARACTERISTICS' paragraph it can be read: "This isolator is suitable for basic electrical isolation...." hence not reinforced.

Also on the page 'SAFETY & REGULATORY COMPLIANCE INFORMATION' the part is VDE 0884 recognized for reinforced bat not CSA or TUV EN 60950 recognized.

So, my question is: can we consider the use of the part in our application or there is other more suitable parts.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

     Stefano Quadri
