What is Idle transition time in SMC Extended Timing register and how is it different from Turnaround time

Question asked by Nabeel Employee on Mar 27, 2012

Idle Transition time is meant for similar back to back access types on the same bank. For actual turnaround scenarios is Idle transition time and Turnaround transition time function in an accumulated fashion. It is recommended that Turnaround transition time be programmed to a value either greater than or equal to 2 cycles depending upon memory AC‐timing specifications.

The sequence of access types and the transition times that affect are shown below:

• a write followed by write to same bank ‐ Idle transition time

• a read followed by read to same bank ‐ Idle transition time

• a write followed by read to same bank ‐ Idle transition time + Turnaround transition time

• a read followed by write to same bank ‐ Idle transition time + Turnaround transition time

• any access to a given bank followed by any access to a different bank ‐ Idle transition time + Turnaround transition time
