Is it true that the 1761 doesn't have program ROM? Does that mean that I will have to reload code every time I turn the chip on? Are the 1701 and 1442 the only chips with stand-alone capability?
Yes, that's correct. None of the SigmaDSPs have ROM, so all of them have to be booted externally.
The ADAU1701, ADAU1702, ADAU1401, ADAU1401A, ADAU1442, ADAU1445, and ADAU1446 have a self-boot feature that allows them to load their boot data from an external EEPROM, giving them stand-alone capability.
All of the other SigmaDSPs need to be booted from a microcontroller or some other kind of intelligent master device on the I2C or SPI bus.
