What 24-bit SPI memory devices can be used in SPI master boot on BF53x/ BF561 processors?
The Boot ROM code lists only a few ATMEL devices. Can we not use devices from other vendors?
The BF56x/ BF53x processors support booting from all standard SPI memory devices. Standard SPI devices respond to the 0x03 read command followed by three address bytes. Any SPI memory device that responds to these standard commands can be used for booting the ADSP-BF561 processor.
In addition to the standard SPI devices, Blackfin also supports booting from Atmel DataFlash devices (including D-type devices when programmed in the "power of 2" mode). That is the reason these devices are explicitly mentioned in the Boot ROM code.
Our dspFlash Programmer supports most SPI flash devices from Atmel, SST and ST. You can check out support for specific devices on our website. If the device isn't listed, we usually can add it quickly.
