Setting a DC source in format 5.23 to 1 reads max scale (+3dB) using a single level detector - shouldn't it be 0dB?
Set to 0.5 reads 0 dB and setting to 0.125 -12dB...see attached...

You are correct. The level detector appears to be reading "MS", or "mean squared", rather than RMS, or "Root Mean Squared." This means that the read-back value is about 1.41 times greater than it should be. I have reported this issue to the software team.
For now, you can use the "Running Average" cell followed by a DSP Readback to get an accurate RMS reading. That method is described here: http://ez.analog.com/message/7669#7669
