AD9983A Test Register 6

We are currently evaluating the AD9983A and found some odd behavior on the Test Register 6.  According to the datasheet, Test Register 6 (address 0x2E) must be written with the value 0xE0.  I have been trying to write 0xE0 but when the register is read back after the write, the value is 0x20.  I actually tried writing 0xFF to this register but read back 0x38.  All other test registers can be written correctly except for this one.

Is this the correct behavior of the chip when Test Register 6 is written 0xE0 (ie. always will read back as 0x20)?

If the wrong value is in this Test Register 6 (ie. 0x20 instead of 0xE0), will the chip behave properly?

Is there an errata for the AD9983A chip or datasheet?  The datasheet revision is 0.
