I'm interested in single convert, using the sinc4 filter (zero latency disabled) and the post filter, but information about all filter settings would be appreciated.
May I know exactly what specific information do you need about filter setting? If you could give us more details regarding your application it would be great. Are you asking for group delay because you are operating with AC input voltage? We do not have discussion on the datasheet for group delay as AD7124 is designed for dc type applications. However, the associated settling time which is the full averaging time of the digital filter and of which is dependent on the filter settings (i.e. filter type and FS value) are all detailed in the datasheet. The datasheet contains a filtering section which gives the complete equations for settling time. The settling time is the time required for the very first conversion. In continuous conversion mode, when you have selected a single channel, the very first conversion in the sequence requires a settling time and the succeeding conversion occurs at the selected ODR. When you enabled multiple channels, the very first conversion requires the settling time and the succeeding conversions will require a slightly shorter time than the settling time. The timing for the very first conversion in single conversion mode will take longer than a standard continuous conversion mode because it needs approximately 130 MCLK cycles to power up and settle. The datasheet contains all of this information including the calculation.
Thank you for your response. I am interested in group delay because I am working with a sensor network and would like to characterize the delay between different sensors in the network, some of which use the AD7124 and some of which use other ADCs. Are you saying that filter settling time is group delay with the AD7124?
I'm also interested in what you mean by "AD7124 is designed for dc type applications." Will the AD7124 not perform well with dynamic voltage input, it seems to work pretty well in my testing?
I would say AD7124 is designed for dc type applications thus we do not have an AC specs for this part. The measurable input bandwidth for AD7124 is very limited due to the sinc filter output, that's why it is intended for low bandwidth application typically close to dc. May I know what input frequency are you operating? Regarding the delay, I think yes the latency for AD7124 is the settling time. We have Virtual Eval Tool which lets you play with various ADC's performance including the AD714. You may find this tool helpful to understand better regarding the filter's frequency and step response.
