In Page 6 of HMC832 datasheet, there is mentioned about the Layout design guidelines. But I couldn't find the recommended guidelines in any of the documents. Kindly advice.
You can generate the HMC832 symbol and footprint for all popular CAD software using "Ultra Librarian Reader" available from http://www.analog.com/en/design-center/packaging-quality-symbols-footprints/symbols-and-footprints.html. Download the tool and HMC832 bxl file from the above link. The bxl reader will create the pcb design files or an AutoCAD dxf file.
I was comparing the schematic of HMC832 evaluation board (Rev B) when we purchased the PCB and the latest schematic (Rev C).
I observed that the pin11 of connector J7 is connected to chip enable (Pin 17) of HMC832 in Rev B, whereas in Rev C, connector Pin 11 is connected to LDO enable pin.
I believe the second method is the right method??
It's a good idea to give software the capability to power down the HMC832 like we have done in the Rev C schematics.
SPI mode selection (HMC or Open mode) is performed only at power up. If SCK and SEN are not well controlled as the power comes up the part may enter the wrong SPI mode. The datasheet only describes how to enter Open mode but the part actually can operate in both Open and HMC modes depending on the state of SCK and SEN at power up. See the HMC830 Operating Guide for a description of both modes and how to perform mode selection.
The HMC832A version does not require any SPI mode selection -- it only operates in SPI Open mode.
