I would like to know which portion of the AD9364 is limiting the lower frequency (70MHz), is it the Mixer or the PLL?
Can we use AD9364 starting from 1MHz to 6GHz, if we use RX_EXT_LO_IN pin and feed the LO from external PLL covering 1-6000MHz.
Yes. The lower frequency is limited by the PLL. The fundamental frequency of the TX and RX RFPLL is from 6 GHz to 12 GHz. Local oscillator frequencies ranging from 47 MHz to 6 GHz are created by dividing the PLL frequency as shown in the below picture.
The frequency applied when an External LO is used should be 2× the desired RF LO frequency.The External LO pin is actually connected to the TX and RX synthesisers through a MUX as shown:

It is recommended to use the chip within 70MHz to 6GHz as per datasheet. Performance beyond that frequency range is not guaranteed.
