ADT7470: Can I perform a temperature readback of ADT7470 while in automatic fan control mode?

Q

Is it possible to perform a temperature readback of ADT7470 while in automatic
fan control mode. It is not clear from the section “temperature readback by the
host” on page 14 of datasheet if the recommended procedure given for radback of
temperature is applicable in both manual and automatic mode or just in manual
mode?

A

The Host can read back the temperature in automatic mode. However there is a
5ppm error rate in automatic mode due to a collision between read and write
access to the temperature registers.
Our workaround at the moment is to take 5 samples, remove maximum and minimum
and average the remaining 3 in auto mode to receive an accurate answer.
